Project overview
Chapter worked on the transformation of this Hudson Blue Residence renovation in New Jersey from an ordinary apartment with no distinct design touches into a home with deeply personal and artistic upgrades using a bold, immersive color strategy. Chapter's design team's challenge was to create unity, calm, and refinement across the entire home by wrapping it in a custom deep blue inspired by the sky as requested by our client. Material continuity, integrated lighting, and thoughtful detailing define the new space, elevating both its emotional impact and everyday functionality.
Scope of work
Throughout the space
- Blue paint across walls, ceilings, and trim to create an immersive, calming environment.
- White oak wire-brushed engineered hardwood floors add warmth and texture to the main living areas.
- Entryway features ash-and-white terrazzo tiles for a striking, modern welcome.
- Upgraded plumbing and electrical systems support modern appliances and refined lighting.
- Custom cabinetry and open shelving with built-in illumination for storage and display areas.
- Dimmable fixtures and art lighting enhance ambiance and highlight architectural features.
- Painted outlets and switches, lit closet interiors, and hidden heater covers demonstrate high-level attention to detail and cohesive design execution.
Kitchen
- Installation of a 3/4 inch honed slab of Italian Verde Alpi stone with deep blue undertones and striking white veining for the kitchen island, countertop, and backsplash from the same slab for seamless visual continuity.
- Cabinetry and wall paint color matched to the stone for a cohesive palette.
- Recessed hardware and integrated lighting create a clean, minimalist aesthetic.
- Concealed range hood
Bathrooms
- Installed the same marble slab for the kitchen countertop to the bathroom counter.
- Updated the shower glass door and all fixtures.
Design overview
Our designer solidified our client's vision of taking inspiration from the color of the sky with the design centering around a rich, all-encompassing blue that sets the tone for the home. This saturated palette acts as both backdrop and identity, allowing the rest of the design elements: Verde Alpi stone, warm wood tones, and soft lighting to stand out. Crisp lines, concealed elements, and material consistency created an environment that feels curated, serene, and architecturally intentional. Every decision reinforces the theme of blues of the sky, from cabinetry color to the kitchen island, and even the light switches.
Project goals
“Sky indoors” theme throughout the space.
Highlight natural stone and material craftsmanship.
Integrate lighting for mood, display, and utility.
Modernize electrical and plumbing systems.
Maintain clean lines through concealed appliances and hardware.
“We enjoyed this project, especially since it began with a unique sky-inspired design theme. Bringing our client's vision to life and seeing his satisfaction with the outcome reflects our ongoing commitment here at Chapter to delivering quality work.”
Kitchen
The kitchen serves as the dramatic focal point of the renovation. Its defining feature is a 3/4 inch honed slab of Italian Verde Alpi stone, selected for its deep blue undertones and striking white veining. Both the countertop and backsplash were cut from the same slab to create seamless visual continuity. Cabinetry and wall paint were carefully color matched to the stone, allowing the palette to flow effortlessly throughout the room. Recessed hardware, integrated lighting, and a concealed range hood contribute to a minimalist aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship and materiality at the heart of the design.
Bathrooms
For the bathroom renovation, we used the same marble slab from the kitchen countertop to create a cohesive bathroom vanity, and we updated the shower with a new glass door and modern fixtures.
Throughout the space
The entire apartment was wrapped in a custom deep blue paint that covers walls, ceilings, and trim to create a calming, immersive environment. This bold choice unifies each room and reinforces the project's concept of bringing the sky indoors. White oak wire-brushed engineered hardwood floors introduce warmth and texture to the main living areas, while the entryway makes a striking impression with ash and white terrazzo tiles. Upgraded plumbing and electrical systems support modern appliances, refined lighting, and integrated functionality. Custom cabinetry, open shelving with built-in illumination, dimmable fixtures, and art lighting craft a sophisticated atmosphere. Painted outlets, switches, lit closet interiors, and hidden heater covers reflect the project's commitment to cohesive, detail-driven design.

Results
This apartment in Hudson Blue Residence was transformed from a plain, ordinary space into a bold, visually striking home. The deep blue palette spanning walls, shelving, and kitchen cabinetry, paired with the dramatic marble island, countertops, and backsplash, creates a cohesive, immersive environment that is as functional as it is unforgettable.
“My favorite thing was the level detail. One of the many things I appreciated was that Katia and Ravit took me to a stone yard to choose the stone, so to be able to have that level of detail is fantastic.”
